I have a VCR connected to my DVD Recorder, which is connected to the TV. Will I need more than one S-video cable for the picture quality to improve from composite recordings? Would there be a difference?

I have an old TV that has only an A/V input (yellow, white) and does not have a port for the S-Video cable. In that case, how can I connect my computer (laptop) to the TV.
Hi, everyone. I just bought an S-Video cable and connected it from my Dell Inspiron Vista laptop, to my RCA HDTV television. What I was trying to do was get the television screen to view what’s on my desktop, but I’m a bit confused on where to go after connecting the S-Video cable. Can someone tell me what I’m supposed to do after the connection, because I put on my television and there is no sign that it’s even recognizing the S-Video cable, in the computer and the television?
I have a multimedia pc that accepts a s-video in cable. Is there some kind of equipment that I can hook up to the cable box so I can have an s-video out?
